“What makes a good portrait photographer? It’s all about your energy; the motivation that pushes you to wake up at 5 a.m. on a Sunday just to catch the sunrise.”

FRANÇOIS

I go by the name François and I am a 27-year-old French portrait photographer. It is something that I am crazy about and I have been mastering for over a year now. I get the opportunity to collaborate with models from all different backgrounds and for only an hour or so, I try to capture their soul.

For the majority of my photoshoots, I use Paris as my background, which is also the city I call home. There is beauty everywhere you look, allowing for endless possibilities with the models. I usually don’t plan ahead too much, I just select a model who has something special, either her look, her attitude, her charismatic personality, etc. Typically, we meet up and talk for a little bit before getting started and then the magic happens. Suddenly, an idea will light up in my head and I’ll guide the model to capture that perfect shot. That’s why I prefer to not over-prepare; so I’m free to be as crazy as I want with my ideas!
Portrait photography is all about creativity. Most people can get a nice camera and start shooting pretty girls, but there’s more to it. It takes some practice, hours and hours of shooting, watching YouTube tutorials, exploring Instagram, and talking to other photographers/models.

What makes a good portrait photographer ? It’s all about your energy; the motivation that pushes you to wake up at 5 a.m. on a Sunday just to catch the sunrise, or that encourages you save up money to buy that perfect camera, that perfect lens. It is also about communication with your model. Like I said before, you only have an hour or two to make her feel comfortable. She needs to trust you and your work in order to get the best results.

Then comes the editing which also takes (a lot of) practice using Lightroom and Photoshop.

In the end, there’s nothing that stops you from being creative and getting that one perfect shot out of 300.

I am willing to give up everything for photography.
